Itinerary

Upon arrival at Lhasa Airport or Lhasa Railway Station, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in downtown Lhasa, situated near the iconic Potala Palace. After check-in, you have the remainder of the day to rest and acclimate to the high altitude of 3,656 meters (12,000 feet). It is crucial to take it easy on your first day to adjust to the altitude and avoid altitude sickness. If you feel up to it, you can take a brief walk around the hotel area to familiarize yourself with your surroundings.

The second day begins with a visit to Drepung Monastery, one of the "Great Three" Gelug university monasteries of Tibet, located on the Gambo Utse mountain, 5 km from Lhasa. Founded in 1416 by Jamyang Choge Tashi Palden, this monastery offers insights into Tibetan Buddhism and its rich history. In the afternoon, you will visit Sera Monastery, another of the "Great Three" Gelug university monasteries, founded in 1419 by Jamchen Chojey. Sera Monastery is renowned for the lively debates among its monks, a unique cultural experience not to be missed. After a day of exploration, you will return to your hotel in Lhasa for the night.

Your exploration of Lhasa continues with a visit to the majestic Potala Palace, the winter palace of the Dalai Lama since the 7th century. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a vast complex that contains numerous chapels, halls, and tombs of previous Dalai Lamas, offering a deep dive into Tibetan culture and spirituality. In the afternoon, you will visit Jokhang Temple, the most sacred and important temple in Tibet, founded in the 7th century. Located in the heart of Lhasa, the temple houses the revered Jowo Shakyamuni statue. Following the temple visit, you can stroll around Barkhor Street, a bustling market street encircling Jokhang Temple. It’s an excellent place to experience Tibetan culture and shop for souvenirs. You will return to your hotel in Lhasa for the night.

Departing from Lhasa, you will embark on a scenic drive to Gyatse and then on to Shigatse, covering approximately 360 km. Along the way, you will visit Yamdrok Lake, one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet, known for its stunning turquoise color and surrounding snow-capped mountains. The journey continues to Karola Glacier, a magnificent glacier situated at an altitude of 5,560 meters (18,241 feet), offering breathtaking views. The day's highlights include a visit to Pelkor Chode Monastery in Gyantse, renowned for its unique combination of Han, Tibetan, and Nepali architectural styles, and its impressive Gyantse Kumbum, a large stupa with 108 chapels. After a full day of exploration, you will continue to Shigatse, the second-largest city in Tibet, at an altitude of 3,836 meters (12,585 feet), where you will spend the night.

On this day, you will travel approximately 350 km from Shigatse to Tingri and then to Everest Base Camp. One of the day's highlights is a visit to Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, located at 4,980 meters (16,340 feet). The monastery offers stunning views of Mount Everest and serves as a gateway to Everest Base Camp. You will spend the night at the Rongbuk Guest House or a tented camp near the base camp, allowing you to fully experience the awe-inspiring environment of the world's highest mountain. Everest Base Camp itself is located at an altitude of 5,200 meters (17,060 feet), and you will have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent view of Mount Everest, also known as Qomolangma in Tibetan.

Begin your day with an early morning visit to Everest Base Camp for sunrise views, weather permitting. The return journey to Shigatse covers approximately 350 km, retracing your route through the spectacular Tibetan landscape. This day allows for reflection on the extraordinary experience of being at the base of Mount Everest. You will spend the night in Shigatse.

The journey back to Lhasa spans approximately 270 km and includes a visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery. Founded in 1447 by the 1st Dalai Lama, Tashilhunpo Monastery is the traditional seat of the Panchen Lama and one of the most important and influential monasteries in Tibet. After exploring the monastery, you will continue the drive back to Lhasa, where you will stay at your hotel for the night.

On your final day, you will have a private transfer to Lhasa Gonggar Airport or Lhasa Railway Station for your onward journey. This marks the end of your comprehensive and well-paced tour, balancing cultural immersion with high-altitude adventure.
