This day is dedicated to resting and acclimatizing at Cho Oyu Base Camp. At this high altitude, it's essential to take it easy and allow your body time to adjust. You can explore the surroundings at a relaxed pace, soaking in the breathtaking views of Cho Oyu and the nearby peaks, while avoiding any strenuous activity. It's a great opportunity to hydrate, check your gear, and mentally prepare for the next phase of your journey. This rest day ensures that you’re well acclimatized for the higher altitudes and physically prepared for the upcoming challenges.

Today is dedicated to organizing and preparing the necessary loads and equipment for your trek to Interim/Advance Base Camp. You will check all your gear and ensure that everything required for the journey is in top condition. This includes preparing climbing equipment, tents, food supplies, and medical kits. Your team will divide the loads to ensure a balanced distribution, with some items being left behind at Cho Oyu Base Camp for safekeeping. Once the preparation is complete, you’ll be ready to make the move towards Interim/Advance Base Camp, a crucial step before the ascent. This day is essential for ensuring that all logistics are handled smoothly and that everyone is equipped for the challenging journey ahead.

The trek to Interim Camp begins with a steady ascent from Cho Oyu Base Camp, taking you through rugged, rocky terrain and glacier moraines. As you move higher, the air becomes thinner, and the landscape transforms into a more alpine environment with snowfields and rocky ridgelines. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking views of Cho Oyu and the surrounding Himalayan peaks. Upon reaching Interim Camp, you’ll set up camp at an elevation of 19,685 feet, where you'll have a stunning view of the glaciers and towering mountains. This camp serves as a crucial stop for acclimatization and preparation for the next phase of the climb.

The trek to Advance Base Camp from Interim Camp involves a gradual ascent through rugged glacier terrain. The path becomes increasingly challenging as you navigate rocky outcrops, icefalls, and moraine fields, with views of the surrounding Himalayan peaks including Cho Oyu. The altitude will start to take effect, so it's essential to move slowly and carefully to avoid altitude sickness. Once you reach Advance Base Camp, situated at an elevation of 20,670 feet, you’ll be welcomed by dramatic views of the snow-capped peaks and the vast expanse of the glacier. This camp is where climbers typically prepare for the final push to higher altitudes.

This period is dedicated to the ascent of Mt. Cho Oyu, which is one of the 14 peaks over 8,000 meters. The climb will take place over multiple days, allowing time for acclimatization, rest, and careful progress through various camps.

                          • Base Camp to Camp 1 (23,000 ft / 7,010 m): The first stretch of the climb takes you to Camp 1, where you will set up your tents in a secure location and rest.
                          • Camp 1 to Camp 2 (24,600 ft / 7,500 m): The next phase involves a challenging climb to Camp 2, where you'll spend time acclimatizing to the higher altitude.
                          • Camp 2 to Camp 3 (26,000 ft / 7,925 m): As you ascend further, you will reach Camp 3, situated at a high-altitude zone, where rest and energy conservation are key.
                          • Summit Push: Once acclimatized and with optimal weather conditions, the final push to the summit of Mt. Cho Oyu will begin. This will involve a strenuous climb to the top, where you'll be rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding mountain range.

After completing the summit push and spending time at higher camps, you will begin your descent back towards Base Camp. This trek down from Advance Base Camp is usually faster and less strenuous but still requires caution due to the rugged terrain. Upon arriving at Base Camp, you will set up camp for the night and rest after the demanding climb. This is a time to reflect on the ascent, recover from the physical exertion, and enjoy a well-deserved break. The peaceful atmosphere at Base Camp, with views of the surrounding peaks, provides a perfect setting to unwind before the next stages of the journey.

The journey back to Tingri begins with a scenic drive from Base Camp. As you leave the high-altitude environment behind, you'll travel through the rugged Tibetan Plateau, surrounded by towering peaks and vast, open landscapes. The drive offers stunning views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest in the distance, and allows for a final reflection on your recent climb. Upon reaching Tingri, you can relax and take in the peaceful surroundings of this remote Tibetan village. The day is free for rest and to prepare for the next leg of the journey.

The drive to Kyirong takes you through the picturesque Tibetan Plateau, descending gradually from Tingri as you approach the lush valleys leading to this charming border town. The route offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, rivers, and Tibetan villages. As you near Kyirong, the landscape shifts, with more greenery and a more temperate climate compared to the high-altitude regions you've just left. Kyirong is an important entry and exit point between Tibet and Nepal, with a relaxed, remote atmosphere. Upon arrival, you can rest and prepare for your border crossing the following day. The evening offers a chance to reflect on the journey and enjoy the tranquil environment.

The final leg of your journey takes you from Kyirong back to Kathmandu. The drive will cross the Nepal-Tibet border and descend through the lush valleys, passing through villages, terraced fields, and winding roads along the Trishuli River. As you make your way towards Kathmandu, you'll notice the change in landscape as the altitude decreases, with the greenery and vibrant local culture becoming more prominent. Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you’ll be transferred to your hotel. This is a time to rest, reflect on the incredible adventure you've just completed, and prepare for your departure from Nepal. The evening may offer a chance for a celebratory dinner and to share stories with your fellow trekkers and guides.

This day serves as a buffer in case of any unexpected delays or events during the expedition, such as weather conditions, travel setbacks, or other unforeseen circumstances. It also provides an opportunity for any last-minute activities in Kathmandu, such as sightseeing, shopping, or enjoying the local culture. You may visit iconic landmarks such as Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, or Pashupatinath Temple, or simply relax in the city. This day ensures that your schedule remains flexible and allows time for proper rest, reflection, and preparation before your departure from Nepal.

After the completion of the Cho Oyu Expedition, today marks your departure from Nepal.
